The Heart Behind The Hold It Together Project
For the givers. For the strugglers. For those holding it together — and those trying not to fall apart.
Some people carry the weight of the world quietly.
They show up early, stay late, care deeply, and rarely ask for anything in return. Others are just trying to make it through the day, holding themselves together through circumstances most of us couldn’t imagine.
This project is for both.
We call them quiet heroes and we built The Hold It Together Project to serve them with comfort, dignity, and a hot cup of coffee that says: You’re not alone.
-
At Skurp’s, coffee is more than a beverage. It’s a bridge between exhaustion and encouragement, chaos and calm, loneliness and community.
Through this project, we’re taking coffee to the places where it’s needed most - not for profit, but for people.
-
They give everything - and rarely get a break.
They run toward danger. They care for strangers. They show up when it matters most.
For us, this is personal.
Sheridan’s father and stepfather served as firefighters and military servicemen. Sean’s mother is a nurse, and his father an electrician. Their service shaped our childhoods - their sacrifices helped raise us.We serve frontline workers not out of charity, but out of deep gratitude. This is our love letter to them.
-
They wait. They worry. They stay.
Parents in hospital rooms don’t get days off. They measure time in test results and whispered prayers. They sleep upright in vinyl chairs and hold their child’s hand through the hardest moments of their lives.
They are warriors. We serve them not to fix their pain but to recognize it and to give them a brief moment of comfort.
-
Every day is a fight - and they keep showing up.
Recovery is not linear. Whether from addiction, trauma, injury, or loss, rebuilding a life takes courage most people never have to summon. And yet - they do.
Not everyone has family support. Not everyone has stability. But everyone deserves dignity. A warm cup of coffee is a small gesture. But for someone holding on by a thread, it can be a moment of peace. A routine. A reason to breathe.
-
They are more than the worst thing that’s ever happened to them.
In Dallas County, over 3,700 people experience homelessness on any given night. Some are veterans. Some are teenagers. Some are mothers. All of them are human.
Living in Dallas means we see it every day. And when you see it, you can’t unsee it. So we show up. With hot drinks. With listening ears. With no judgment and no agenda - only kindness.
-
Scripture tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Not just in words, but in action. Not just in comfort, but in crisis.
We don’t do this to earn credit. We do this because we believe faith means showing up - in shelters, in hospitals, in moments that matter.
Coffee is our way of being present. Our offering of warmth, connection, and care - wherever it’s needed most.
-
When you book Skurp’s, a portion of proceeds goes directly toward this mission. Here's what that looks like:
Free coffee for frontline workers — hospital staff, first responders, public servants, and more
Care cart pop-ups at recovery meetings — providing warmth, dignity, and consistency to those on the journey of healing
Coffee & connection days — partnering with local nonprofits to serve unhoused neighbors, caregivers, and communities in crisis
This is how we hold it together — as a community. With coffee, compassion, and a commitment to our neighbors.
